Jyoti Khan is the Global Head of Internal Communications at Tata Communications; she is based in Singapore and has been a member of IABC since 2016. Let’s get up, close and personal with her.

Why IABC?
I came across IABC through some colleagues of mine based in North America. When I looked up the association, I was really inspired by the vision and purpose of IABC – to advance the profession and develop strategic communicators. Being based in Asia, I was missing out on a community of communication professionals to connect and exchange ideas with. That is how I joined IABC.
What’s the biggest challenge in your role?
Like most communication professionals, one of the key challenges I faced initially was to demonstrate the strategic value of internal communications. We have now had some success with it, thanks to outcome-based communications approach for some of our key programmes. But it still is a time consuming exercise!
What’s it like being a MAL?
Being a member-at-large with IABC Asia Pacific has been valuable – especially for learning opportunities through webinars and knowledge sharing as well as global virtual resources like the Hub.
How important is it that IABC APAC connects you to other MALs?
To me, connecting with other members would be a huge benefit. As communication professionals, we face many similar challenges and I have always been inspired by shared learning. Mastermind Circle has been a start and I look forward to many more.
