
Call for Nominations
The IABC APAC Silver Quill Communicator of the Year (CoTY) Award is a unique opportunity to acknowledge exceptional communication excellence and leadership. In our inaugural year of this special award, we are opening the call for nominations for:
Executive leaders who demonstrate outstanding communication
and / or
Senior communication professionals with more than 10 years in the profession
Unlike most other communication awards programs, the CoTY Award celebrates the individual. The award isn’t based on projects, but on the ability of a leader to deliver the very best communication day in, day out. The CoTY Award recognises and honours that strategic communication excellence. The honour will become a powerful statement that will support the winners’ careers for years to come.
There are two categories of the CoTY Awards. One for a senior communicator and one for an Executive Leader. They will be awarded annually at an IABC Asia Pacific event.
The CoTY Awards will be judged by a senior panel of leaders from IABCAsia Pacific region and chapter leadership. The panel will be seeking nominations demonstrating:
- Exceptional leadership, management, and communication skills
- Delivering measurable business value for their organisation through strategic communication.
- Innovation and bold thinking
- Effective communication with diverse audiences
- High ethical and professional standards.
Categories & Eligibility:
Senior Communication Professional:
- 10+ years in the communication profession
- The nominee can be an IABC member or non-member
- The nominee must have more than one (1) year tenure at his/her current position as of the nomination date
- The nominee must be based in the Asia Pacific region
- The nominee must be of good standing in the communication profession
- Demonstrates adherence to ethical behaviour
- Current IABC IEB and APAC region and chapter leaders are not eligible
Executive Leader
- Current leader in their organisation ( i.e. CEO, Chair, President, Executive Director)
- The nominee must have more than one (1) year tenure at his/her current position as of the nomination date
- The nominee must be based in the Asia Pacific region
- The nominee must be of good standing in the community
- Demonstrates adherence to ethical behaviour
- Current IABC IEB and APAC region and chapter leaders are not eligible
Process and timeline
20 January | Open call for nominations. Nominations can be made by a sponsor or self-nominated. Nominations via iabcapac.com |
20 February | Open call closes at 6:00 pm AEDT Thursday 20 February 2020 |
21 – 26 February | Submission review and evaluation, which may include interviews with referees |
27 February | Winners are notified by the IABC APAC Region Chair |
26 March | Announcement of the winners. Awards bestowed at the IABC APAC Silver Quills Gala, Fusion20 conference in Wellington New Zealand. |
Criteria:
Senior Communication Professional
Nominees must:
- Demonstrate strategic and innovative thinking and implementation in communication
- Demonstrate how their communication strategies and initiatives have contributed to business outcomes.
- Demonstrate their commitment to the development of their people and the team’s strategic communication capability and skill-set to deliver business results
- Had a substantial positive influence with key stakeholders and the community
- Demonstrate a strong code of ethics
Executive Leader
Nominees must have:
- A demonstrated ability to communicate authentically
- Demonstrated application of good communication practice to deliver business results
- Had a substantial positive influence with key stakeholders and the community
- Exemplifies the role of a leader in communications
- Utilises effective external and internal communications
- Demonstrate a strong code of ethics
How to nominate:
- Nominations can be either self-nominated or nominated by an IABC member or non-member.
- Nominations do not have to be from your own organisation.
- Nominations must be submitted by the closing time and date. No extensions will be granted.
- Nominations to be emailed to iabcasiapacific@gmail.com
- A nomination must include:
- CV of the nominee (no more than 4 pages)
- One page essay or statement on why the nominee is deserving of this award and description of accomplishments
- Response to each criterion – word count for each criteria response is a maximum of 300 words
- Two referees or references – contact details and relationship to nominee
- Contact details of the nominator (if not self-nominated)
All information submitted will be reviewed by the judging panel and will be kept in strict confidence. Entries will not be returned.
Evaluation
Evaluation Committee consists of up to seven (7) people:
– IABC APAC Chair
– IABC APAC Vice-Chair
– IABC APAC Past-Chair
– IABC APAC Recognition Director
– IABC Fusion Committee Chair
– IABC APAC Chapter President x 2
Evaluation of responses against each criterion on a rating score of 1 – 7, with 1 being poor and 7 being excellent.
Referees and nominator may be interviewed by an Evaluation Committee member during the evaluation process.
The Evaluation Committee may choose not to award a winner in a category. Decisions by the Evaluation Committee are final.
